While the machine may be operated in the aerial position this is generally not recommended.  For safety purposes the scissor lift should be completely lowered before moving from place to place.  Classes are available to learn how to safely operate the machine.  In some states a forklift operator's certification may be required.  Certainly it should be a priority to train every operator of the lift.  While the lifts are fitted with safety guard rails precautions are necessary around electrical wires or other power sources.

The machine is equipped with a feature that indicates if the angle is wrong, especially in a two-person work environment.  When activated the machine will not raise or lower until the angle is corrected.  This is to keep those working on the equipment safe.  In most cases a safety harness is recommended to stop a fall to prevent serious injury.  Caution should also be used to assure that equipment does not fail when the lift is in an aerial position.
